ES disables my power management settings in Ubuntu

I run Lucid now and ES disables my power management settings (i.e. "Put display to sleep"). I run a plasma and I need it to shut off after some time. Despite what time delay is set the screen never shuts off when ES is set as the screensaver. Is that intentional or a bug?

The bug you linked is quite
could be a bug in mplayer
The bug you linked is quite old. I used to run the previous ES version with no problems. This issue started only with the 2.7.

it was version 2.7 that

it was version 2.7 that started using mplayer.

Anyway it looks like mplayer

Anyway it looks like mplayer disabling the screensaver and PM function (as it should do in case you are just watching movie) loops the ES playback indefinitely. This clearly makes the ES unusable because any manual switching to accommodate for the required PM profile contradicts the nature of screensaver programs.

when you install it, it does

when you install it, it does that. but you should be able to use the regular controls and set it back to whatever you want. EDIT: the sheep install does not do this, now i think mplayer does it.

Nope. Somehow ES makes the

Nope. Somehow ES makes the system to ignore whatever you try to set in PM settings (such as "Put display to sleep" on my case) and keeps running the sheep.

Uninstalling electricsheep

Uninstalling electricsheep solves the issue and makes the system obey the Power Management settings again.

But while using it, setting the Power Management settings to whatever you like, doesn't do nothing, as the system completely ignores it.

right, because mplayer is

right, because mplayer is disabling the power management.

How do we prevent it from

How do we prevent it from disabling power savings?

Why did you abandoned the embedded video player?
I never had any problems with 2.6x. :(

i don't know you tell

i don't know you tell me.

because it didn't handle mpeg4.

How did you do on Windows

How did you do on Windows (and Mac) which does not have this "depedency" system to enforce that people has the mplayer installed on system (so you can use it)?

sorry i don't understand your

You probably don't use an

we link with ffmpeg and

we link with ffmpeg and decode the video natively.

Sorry for the stupid questio,

Sorry for the stupid questio, but. This can't be done in Linux?

Yes the Windows/Mac client

Yes the Windows/Mac client could be ported to Linux. That would be great. Are there any volunteers?
