make sure you have the most recent drivers for your graphics card. if it still doesn't work then post here with the info as described in the instructions for windows users (GPU-Z, dxdiag, log files, hardware info, OS version).
I am not positive which graphics card is running but I did download and attempt to install the driver that was compatible with my processor (dell support) with no success.
How can I check which Gcard is installed?

I also cannot use the WiNAmp visualizer, it says Direct X is failing to initiate because I do not have a valid 3d accelerated display adapter.
It definitely sounds like you're missing the proper video card driver.
Go to support.dell.com, select the drivers and downloads link, and enter your service tag. It's 7 digits and is on the bottom of the laptop. That will ensure you get the right list of drivers/apps. Also make sure you enter the proper OS (it might default to Vista instead of XP).
I'm sure once you get the video drivers sorted out that ES and other DirectX apps will work properly.
