Usually when I place my mouse over a SS option it's accompanied by an explanation; but not with the display options.
Normal is self-explanatory; but how do the other 2 differ?

in linear and cubic modes,
in linear and cubic modes, the client interpolates between the decoded frames, showing more than is in the source. the interpolation is done with straight lines (linear mode) or cubic curves (cubic mode). if your graphics card supports it, then cubic is best.
