Extremely slow/choppy framerate

First off, I'd like to say that I really love this app. :] I had it installed in this system before, and it ran great. (other than the pause between sheep, but that was with an older version)

So, the problem is stated in the title - the screensaver is extremely slow, stuttery, and choppy. It starts out fine, but after a minute or three it slows dramatically. It's like it's being rendered on a Commodore 64, not Vista 64 ;)

Specs:
Vista ultimate 64 bit
8 GB RAM
Intel Q6600 (Quad core)
ATI 3870 HD X2
ElectricSheep v. 2.7b10

As you can see, this should flow smooth as silk. (as it did with the older version - can't remember which one TBH)

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

this is a bug in 2.7b10, it

this is a bug in 2.7b10, it will be fixed in the next release, due out shortly.

Hmm...

Hmm...

Well, it runs smoothly now. I disabled Vista's indexing service - it may have been using up too much resources, as this is a fresh install.

Only problem now is that it won't download sheep at all - it'll only play whatever ones I download & install manually. I've kept the same settings in my router & firewall, but it doesn't seem to matter. Oh well, it's OK for now.

Thanks.

[edit] Well waddaya know - I tried it again, and it downloaded a sheep. (partially, at least, I think) But it ran super slow & choppy. So it seems that anything I install myself runs smooth, and anything I download runs extremely poorly.

Perhaps if I give it more time - I'll let it run while I sleep tonight & see how it's running in the morning. I'll report back.

I hope this bit of info helps somebody/anybody at all.

:)

To others who have read this

To others who have read this post too, some times this is simply a matter of the pc downloading the sheep at a very fast Mbps. This fast dl speed combined with whatever the cpu is processing, can cause the sheep to jitter or lag at times. Once everything has finished downloading, the sheep SHOULD run much smoother, especially if your pc isn't doing anything else except running the sheep :).
