hello, I am new to the forum but been using ES for a while.
I have a problem with this new version 2.7b12 under ubuntu: the monitor does not turn off after X minutes as I have configured in gnome power manager. If I change the screensaver from ES to any other it works as expected. Same thing with the mouse: if I move it to leave the screensaver with ES it will not work, but it will with other gnome screensavers. This is not a big problem because I can use the keyboard, but the monitor issue is more annoying as I leave the computer on all day long.
After I have two minor questions:
- Any explanation in the web about ES configuration settings that come up with "electricsheep-preferences"? In particular "no animation", "standalone", "save frames" or the convenience of logging in, thing in that, by the way, I didn't succeed.
- Will ES return to ubuntu repositories? I found it practical...
Thank you very much!

I just thought of something
I just had this idea. Maybe the flam3 rendering is keeping the monitor from turning off.
sorry i don't know about the
sorry i don't know about the monitor not turning off or the mouse not waking it up, but i can explain the options:
no animation = don't show the sheep
standalone = don't connect to the server
save frames = keep the frames rendered for the network on local disk
the authentication server (that handles logging in) isn't working but you don't need it yet so don't worry about that.
Since I don't use Electric
Since I don't use Electric Sheep on Ubuntu, I wouldn't know about the monitor problem, but I do know that Electric Sheep is in the repositories for Ubuntu 9.10!
Ubuntu 9.10
The package is in ubuntu, but for a new user, it is quite difficult to get it running.
Selecting the electricsheep as in the Gnome screensaver preferences does not do anything apart from displaying black window. There is no "configuration" button either.
Running electricsheep from the command line displayed after a while error message about connecting to server v2d6.sheepserver.net.
After searching a lot on the web, setting the IP 74.207.242.239 to v2d6.sheepsherver.net in /etc/hosts seemed to work (a bit fake since it is IP of a different server) - at least some videos got generated to $HOME/.sheep/
But still, nothing is played on the screen, even when run from CLI.
The next day: Having a look at /usr/share/doc/electricsheep/examples, I have found a script for mplayer (instead of the default one) and then running the sheep with option --player works fine and displays the video. However, it quits after playing on of the files. Do I need to run electricsheep in a loop? Looks like. Today, the default server seems to work, too.

play anim x=24 id=1875 iters=1 path=/home/modeluser/.sheep/.
lsucc to 1699, lnsuccs=1.</code>
Yet, there is no "electricsheep-preferences" skript, so I cannot set the player as default so that it can be run from the Gnome ScreenSaver.
Enough for today, I will give it a try tomorrow again. Or some one helps?
the package that's in ubuntu
the package that's in ubuntu is obsolete, you should uninstall it and get the current version by clicking "download" on the menu on the left.
Thanks for the hint, before
Thanks for the hint, before compiling myself, I found this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~khashayar/+archive/builder
Works like a charm!
