Problem on XP with a Limited account
Hi,
I can't get Electric Sheep (2.6.7b6) to run when I log into Windows XP (Home edition, SP3) with a Limited account, as I usually do. Everything works perfectly when I log in to an Administrator account. When I log in to a Limited account, the Electric Sheep settings (accessed via Display Properties) are incorrect and any changes made to them are lost when the Settings dialog box is closed.
I've checked the release notes and, as recommended there, have moved the Electric Sheep directory to a place where all user accounts have write access (and changed what I hope was the appropriate registry entry). This did not fix the problem.
Thanks for your help!

No dice. Need a better answer
The page speaks about another page that is a dead link.
Upon further digging, one comes up with a possibility that permissions need to be changed on C:\Windows\System32\electric-cache. Again, not helpful, because I specifically put the cache into a directory ("D:\Program_Files\Electric_Sheep") where my normal account has write access. It still does not work unless I run under the security context of Administrator and it DOES write to that directory I chose when it runs.
So.. I still need to know EXACTLY what Electric Sheep is looking for in the registry and in the file system and possibly Group Policy as well - or let's have a fix/patch/something that doesn't require one to be Administrator when running it.
i believe the fix is to run
i believe the fix is to run the 2.7 beta. nobody is working on the 2.6 series anymore. you might try installing it on C:, but i'm just guessing.
Same problem - hoping for a workaround/fix
There really is no easy way to get the screensaver to launch in a different security context without a code change or a wrapper app that does impersonation. The question remains, why would anyone write a program with the assumption that the user runs it with admin privileges?
Anyway.. I'm hoping for an answer on this - either a fix/patch or a procedure to change permissions on the necessary objects - need to know exactly what those are.
Write now, I can only run ES if I use AC's Sheep Watcher and choose 'Run As...' when I launch it and authenticate as Administrator.

How do I get to the compatibility tab for the screensaver (ElectricSheep.scr)?
