OS X Electric Sheep switching to "Computer Name" screen saver after a couple minutes

Been doing this for the last few days, when I get back to my desk ES will be gone and it will be on the Computer Name saver. I've got the latest version of OS X. Any ideas? I'm kind of clueless on this one. The SS panenl will still show ES selected, I don't have to change it back or anything.

having the same crashing problems with the brand new version

I just wanted to comment that I am having the "crashing" problems with the new "b" version downloaded last night. It wont even let me preview it in the system pref pane of my screen saver setup it just crashes it.

Hope we can get it workin soon. i miss my sheep...havent seen any for weeks now :( Im having Flock Withdwrawls

It should be fixed in b17. But still, can you send me the crash report for the crash of your system preferences, so I can confirm it is still the crash I fixed? You can find them in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter folder. Please send them to dasvo [at] planeta [dot] cz

Same problem

My ES SS runs fine for 5-6 minutes, then switches to black screen with the silver Apple logo moving slowly around the screen. It only started doing this recently -- running 2.7b15a on a 1.8 ghz Power Mac G5 with 5 gigs of RAM.

Looks like there is something

Looks like there is something wrong when trying to display server message. I will try to fix it for the next version. You see it just now, because one of the server is inaccessible, the ES tries to display message about it and crashes therefore switching to the default screen saver.

Can you try the newly released b16 version (do not contain any particular fix for it) if it is still the same and if yes, can try to run the standalone application version (installed into /Applications folder by b16 installer). Let it run please and if it crashes, send me the crash report please to dasvo [at] planeta [dot] cz.

Worse? How worse? Can you be more specific? The line you are mentioning is it from console? It doesn't seem related to Electric Sheep at all. We don't use Arial in ES. Do you have some other messages there in console? What about log file?

it seems to be quitting earlier now, but that might not be the case.

I am running a dual 2.3g PowerPC G5 2.5 GB ram os 10.5.8

Does it play in preview pane

Does it play in preview pane in System preferences correctly? When you choose the screen saver, the small preview on the right in the dialog? Can you try to play with display modes (through Options... dialog sheet). Maybe it is related to graphics card or something. From the log above, everything looks ok.

You can access console after the screen saver is off. You should see the whole history, so you should be able to pinpoint which messages was written roughly around the time the screen saver was switched back to computer name one.

thanks for your help but still i can't figure this out.

when i do go to my prefs ES is never selected i have to reselect it every time. i can play with the options and so far that isn't helping, ES always boots out after a few minutes.

Yes we found a potential crash and it is fixed for next version. Can you look to your Crash log if you can find it for the segmentation fault you mention? They should be in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. You can send it to dasvo [at] planeta [dot] cz.

It is just to confirm that it is the same bug I fixed. Unfortunately I still don't understand why it happens, so I can't offer you any workaround just now.

Can you please check what is written in the "Console" after this happens. You can see console messages using "Console" application in /Applications/Utilities. Looks like there is some sort of incompatibility and Screen Saver manager just decides that it cannot run the screen saver. Can you remove the .cfg file from ~/Library/Application Support/ElectricSheep and retry? Unfortunately from the description I don't see where the problem can be.

What is your system? Your computer? Your processor?
